Host: Many people are asking such a question: Is there any difference between World Expo and
the exhibitions in normal sense?
Xiao Luo: World Expo is different from the exhibtions in normal sense. It is not a trade
exhibition.
Host: What is World Expo on earth? Could you describe it in a word?
Xiao Luo: In a word, World Expo (also World Exposing or World’s Fair) is known as the
“Olympics” in fields of economy, science & technology, and culture.
Host: Would you please tell about the concept of the World Exposition?
Xiao Luo: Of course. The concept of the World Exposition is “Understanding, Communication,
Gathering and Cooperation”. It is an international venue to promote the progress of human
civilization.
Host: Um…Application for hosting a World Expo is a very hard job, isn’t it?
Xiao Luo: It’s true! Application for hosting a World Expo shall go through four
procedures—bidding, BIE enquiry, voting, and registration , which span several years.
Host: What kind of organization is entitled to administrate world expositions? These striking
venues are so large in scale.
Xiao Luo: The International Exhibitions Bursar (BIE), headquartering in Paris, is the governing
body of world expeditions. China is a BIE member state, therefore, has the right to apply for
boosting a World Expo.
Host: As we know, Zaragoza Spain hosts Expo 2008 .Is it of the same nature with the International
Exhibition of 2005 Aichi and Expo 2010?
Xiao Luo:As stipulated in BIE Convention , World Expo falls in to two major categories—Registered
International Exhibition and Recognized International Exhibition (also known as Special
Exhibition), according to their nature, size and duration . Registered Exhibitions are also
known as General Exhibition, with a broad theme and all-inclusive exhibits; they can occur
every five years and last normally six months. Recognized International Exhibition is also
known as Special Exhibition, with a specialized theme and relatively small scale; they can
occur between General Exhibition and last normally three months. Expo 2008 Zaragoza is a
Recognized International Exhibition, 2005 Aichi Expo and Expo 2010 are Registered International
Exhibitions.
Host: I see . What kinds of forms will a Worlds Expo use for presentation?
Xiao Luo: It’s a lot. World Expo has three major forms for presentation—exhibitions ,events,
and forums. Visitors will be sure to enjoy a fruitful trip.
Host: Hearing what you said, I do expect Expo 2010 more than ever. Much appreciation to Xiao
Luo's answers.
Xiao Luo: Bye!
