Larry和李華的朋友David這個(gè)周末要舉行聚會(huì)。Larry和李華在談?wù)摓槭裁匆粋€(gè)朋友不能參加。李華今天會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)：baloney和party animal。

LH: Larry，Laura說(shuō)她下個(gè)周末不能去參加David的聚會(huì)，因?yàn)樗タ赐陌⒁獭?/p>

LL: That's baloney. She's just making up an excuse not to go to the party.

LH: Laura是在找借口？ 我想不會(huì)吧！對(duì)了，Larry，你說(shuō)"That's baloney"，這是什么意思呀？Baloney不是做三明治用的一種大香腸嗎？

LL: Yes, literally, baloney is a lunchmeat; however, in this case, baloney means "nonsense."

LH: 在這種情況下，baloney是指胡說(shuō)，廢話。你的意思是Laura在胡說(shuō)。嗨，Laura不去就不去吧， 為什么要騙人呢？

LL: She doesn't want to go to the party either because her ex-boyfriend Jack will be there and doesn't want to be rude.

LH: Larry，婉言謝絕邀請(qǐng)也沒(méi)有什么不禮貌。另外，Laura上次對(duì)我說(shuō)她和Jack雖然分手了，可還是好朋友。我不相信Laura是在找借口。

LL: Now, that's really baloney. The two of them don't even speak to each other anymore.

LH: 他們倆現(xiàn)在見(jiàn)了面都不理睬，也不說(shuō)話？這跟Laura說(shuō)的完全相反，是誰(shuí)告訴你的呀？That's baloney!

LL: That's what Jack told me the last time I spoke with him. He seemed very disappointed that they weren't getting along. He sounded really sincere.

LH: 他對(duì)和Laura 分手感到很失望！That's baloney! 要是他感到惋惜，Laura又說(shuō)他們還是朋友，那為什么他告訴你兩人見(jiàn)了面象仇人那樣不理睬， 不說(shuō)話的？我才不相信Jack!

LL: Come on, Jack is a good guy. He wouldn't tell me something that is baloney.

LH: 可是Laura也不是壞人，她也不是說(shuō)謊的人哪！。

LL: Okay, okay. Forget what I said! It was all just a bunch of baloney, anyway!

LL: Even if Laura isn't coming, I am glad Tom is coming to David's party. Tom is a real party animal!

LH: Larry， 你說(shuō)什么？Tom是party animal？ Tom是人，不是什么動(dòng)物！

LL: Yes, he is a human being, but he is a human being that loves to go to parties! People that love to party are party animals.

LH: 原來(lái)party animal指的是特別喜歡參加聚會(huì)的人，也就是聚會(huì)狂。Tom哪一次聚會(huì)都不錯(cuò)過(guò)，要這么說(shuō)，他的確是個(gè)party animal。 Larry，我看你也是一個(gè)喜歡參加聚會(huì)的人，也是個(gè)party animal！

LL: Yeah, but I am not as much of a party animal as Tom.

LH: 你倒挺謙虛的，覺(jué)得自己還比不上Tom。你說(shuō)說(shuō)，你哪一點(diǎn)比Tom差呢？

LL: Well, Tom goes out to parties nearly every weekend. I've got too much to do, and I really can't go out all the time.

LH: 那倒是，Tom確實(shí)每個(gè)周末都去參加聚會(huì)，你還沒(méi)到這個(gè)程度。Larry，David平時(shí)很?chē)?yán)肅，還很害羞，沒(méi)想到他會(huì)舉辦這個(gè)聚會(huì)。他絕不是象你和Tom那樣的party animal。

LL: Well, you might be surprised! Sometimes at a party David relaxes and acts just like Tom - like a real party animal!

LH: 我才不信呢！David參加聚會(huì)時(shí)比平時(shí)更放松一點(diǎn)是可能的，但絕不會(huì)象Tom那樣活寶。我看見(jiàn)過(guò)Tom在聚會(huì)上的樣子， David不可能是個(gè)party animal。

LL: Sure, he laughs, tells jokes and has a good time - and some times he gets crazy and does the funniest things.

LH: 這可出乎我的意料。David居然還會(huì)如此談笑風(fēng)生，講笑話，做逗人笑的事。說(shuō)明我對(duì)他還不了解。

LL: What about you, Li Hua? Are you a party animal?

LH: Larry, 你別胡扯了！ 你看我像聚會(huì)狂嗎？

LL: Let's just say if someone said to me "That Li Hua is a real party animal" - I'd say that is baloney!

今天李華學(xué)到了兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)。一個(gè)是baloney, 意思是騙人的鬼話，胡扯。李華學(xué)到的另一個(gè)常用語(yǔ)是party animal， 指的是特別喜歡參加社交聚會(huì)的人。
