The Purpose of Learning
Nowadays in China students are busy with their studies. They have to take the "entranceexams for college". All the students in high school are doing the same things-read the textbooks, do the exercises and know the immediate purpose is to get a good grade and obtainadmission to a decent college.
When in college, the purpose of study alters slightly, students are aware of the fact that they are prepared for future career in college study. The change is not smooth, because in college the tests are not extinct. There are still many tests for college students to pass. That presses students to switch the modes between study for practicality and for tests.
Luckily both modes do not necessarily conflict with each other. The purpose of tests is to examine the students' capability of mastering the knowledge, which is vital to their career, especially in a knowledge-based economy. Therefore, college students should not only acquire knowledge to pass the tests, but also master specialized skills which are significant to their future jobs.
