Eight ways to sidestep hidden job－hunting hazards

Errors in judgement for job－hunting can prevent even the finest candidate¹⁾ from landing the job she or he wants．The following eight simple rules can help you avoid such mistakes．

1. BEGIN YOUR JOB SEARCH BEFORE THE PRESSURE IS REALLY ON．

Desperate²⁾ candidates are much less attractive．And if you need a job fast，you may have to accept the first offer you get

２．CONDUCT A COMPLETE SEARCH．

Touch all the following bases to increase your chances of getting the job and the salary you want：

１）．apply to companies ２）．ask your friends and relatives about jobs ３）．answer newspaper ads ４）．apply at private employment agencies and the state employment services ５）．take civil service tests．

３．SET REALISTIC GOALS．

Make sure you aren’t pursuing conflicting goals．Don’t expect miracles³⁾．Establish a priority⁴⁾ for your goals．If getting a job quickly is essential，realise that your needs probably rule out getting a high salary．Review your goals periodically．If what seemed a realistic goal at the start appears unattainable⁵⁾ １２ weeks later，change your goal．

４．BE WILLING TO INVEST IN YOURSELF．

If your résumé typed on a portable is less impressive than one typed on a full size electronic typewriter，the little money saved may not be worth it．You will have a better chance to succeed if you look successful．

５．REVISE YOUR STRATEGIES AS NEEDED．

Don’t continue to send out a résumé or an application letter that has gotten no results．And don’t keep pursuing a position if it obviously isn’t attainable．If you discover that you aren’t as marketable as you assumed you would be，revise your résumé and your goals．

６．TRY TO GET EVERY JOB OFFER YOU CAN．

Even if you aren’t sure you want a certain job，getting an offer may make you more attractive to a company you want to work for．The job you are interviewing for may not appeal to you so much now but could prove to be your most appealing alternative later．Interviews enable you to see how good you are at making people want you．If you get an offer，you’ll know you have mastered the technique that get you other offers．Besides，getting a job offer can build you up psychologically．This boost may be just what you need to succeed in your next interview，for a job you want more．

７．FOLLOW UP EVERY LEAD YOU GET．

The least likely contact may be the one that gets you a job or leads you to the contact that does．

８．DON’ T OVERDO IT．

Trying to do too much at once may be a mistake．Be sure you schedule enough time to follow up every lead and every application．Getting a job is a matter of planning and persistence⁶⁾．It isn’t a race．

4、要舍得在自己身上投資。

如果用手提式打字機打出來的求職簡歷，不如正規(guī)的電子打印機打出來的給人印象深刻，省下那點錢是不值得的。你若看上去很成功，那你成功的可能性就大。

5、必要時調(diào)整求職策略。

不要接連不斷地發(fā)出得不到回音的求職簡歷或求職信件；不要老是追求一個明顯不可能得到的職位。如果你發(fā)現(xiàn)自己并不像想像的那么有競爭力，那就修改求職簡歷和目標。

6、盡量爭取得到每一個就業(yè)機會。

即使你定不下來到底想做哪種工作，得到一次就業(yè)機會也可能使你想要去效力的那個公司對你另眼相看。你去面試的那份工作現(xiàn)在可能對你沒有多大吸引力，但以后說不定是最吸引你的一項選擇。面試使你認識到你有能力讓人想要雇用你。如果你得到了一次就業(yè)機會，你就會明白你掌握了能使你得到別的就業(yè)機會的技巧。再者，得到一次就業(yè)機會能使你在心理上變得成熟起來。這種提高或許正是你為下次能得到更理想的工作而使面試獲得成功所需要的。

7、緊追你得到的每一條線索。

看起來最不抱什么希望的接觸沒準就能幫你找到一份工作，或者能幫你進行另外的接觸，找到工作。

8、不可過分。

要想一下子辦過多的事可能是個錯誤。一定要安排足夠的時間對每條線索緊追不舍，密切注意每一求職申請的情況。求職就業(yè)需要計劃加毅力，它不是賽跑。
