［注解］語(yǔ)出莎士比亞的戲劇《亨利四世·上篇》第5幕第4場(chǎng)。常用做詼諧語(yǔ)，作為不做無(wú)謂冒險(xiǎn)的借口；膽小鬼也以此掩飾自己的膽怯。意為小心則大勇。
［譯］謹(jǐn)慎為勇敢之本；真勇士不輕易冒險(xiǎn)。

［注解］指你愿意別人如何對(duì)待你，你就應(yīng)該如何對(duì)待別人。
［譯］推己及人。

［注解］spite惡意對(duì)待。此諺語(yǔ)用來(lái)勸人不要意氣行事，以免自身受到損害。切勿割掉自己的鼻子去報(bào)復(fù)自己的臉；不要因意氣行事而傷害自己。意同“Don't cut the bough you are standing on”。
［譯］勿輕舉妄動(dòng)，自斷生路。

［注解］halloo意同whistle。茂密的森林容易迷路，未出林子前始終存在危險(xiǎn)和困難。out of the wood已成習(xí)語(yǔ)，意為走出森林，脫離危險(xiǎn)，到達(dá)安全地。
［譯］未出險(xiǎn)境，切莫先歡呼。
