［譯］行為漂亮才漂亮。

［注解］credit 信譽(yù)，榮譽(yù)。
［譯］很難找到哪個人會墮落到不希望人們對他有個好印象。
He gives twice that (or who) gives in a trice.
［注解］源自拉丁語。trice瞬間，頃刻。in a trice及時(shí)，馬上。比喻及時(shí)幫助效益大。
［譯］助人及時(shí)等于助人兩次；急人所急。

［譯］先自嘲者，不會見笑于人；先自嘲者才能免受譏笑。

［注解］人若十分自恃，必定十分無知。

［譯］欲蓋彌彰。

［注解］比喻正人先正己。
［譯］要笑別人駝背，先把自己的身子挺直。
He who touches pitch will be defiled. (or You can't touch pitch without being defiled.)
［注解］指環(huán)境對人有很大影響。勸人不可與壞人同流合污。詞組touch pitch指參與干壞事，與壞人有瓜葛。引申為“近墨者黑”。
［譯］與瀝青打交道哪能保持干凈；與壞人為伍必染其惡。

［注解］意指對神父、醫(yī)生、律師隱瞞實(shí)情，會傷害自己的靈魂、身體，還有財(cái)產(chǎn)。
［譯］對神父、醫(yī)生和律師，事事都要講清楚。
