百喻經(jīng)之七九: 為王負(fù)杌喻

　　(79) CARRYING CHAIRS FOR THE KING

　　昔有一王，欲入無(wú)憂園中歡娛受樂(lè)。敕一臣言：“汝捉一杌，持至彼園，我用坐息。”

　　Once upon a time, there was a king who wished to go to the garden named "Free From Care" for a good time. He ordered one of his ministers, "You'll drag a lounge chair to that garden for me to sit and take rest on."

　　時(shí)彼使人，羞不肯捉，而白王言：“我不能捉，我愿擔(dān)之。”

　　The minister considered it a demeaning job for a minister to drag a chair. So he refused to do it and replied, "I would rather carry it on my back with a pole than dragging it."

　　時(shí)王便以三十六杌置其背上，驅(qū)使擔(dān)之，至于園中。如是愚人，為世所笑。

　　Then the king put thirty-six chairs on his back and asked him to carry them to the garden. Such a stupid man was laughed by the people at large.

　　凡夫之人，亦復(fù)如是。若見(jiàn)女人一發(fā)在地，自言持戒，不肯捉之。后為煩惱所惑，三十六物一時(shí)都捉，不生慚愧，至死不舍。如彼愚人擔(dān)負(fù)于杌。

　　This is also held to be true with the common people. Seeing hair fallen from a woman's head on the ground, people are reluctant to pick it up, in the name of keeping the commandments. However once disturbed by ignorance and desire, they do not mind picking up thirty-six unclean things at a time such as hair, capillary, nail, tooth, excrement, urine etc, without feeling shameful and even keep them as long as they live. This is just like that stupid man bearing chairs on his back.

　?、偃铮和庀嗍l(fā)毛爪齒屎尿之類(lèi);身器十二，皮血之類(lèi);內(nèi)含十二，赤痰白痰之類(lèi)。

　　白話：

　　從前有一位國(guó)王，想入無(wú)憂園中歡娛嬉樂(lè)，吩咐一個(gè)臣子道：「你拿一張矮櫈子來(lái)，放到園中去，我好用來(lái)休息。」當(dāng)時(shí)那人羞于拿著一張櫈子，便對(duì)國(guó)王說(shuō)：「我不能拿，我愿背著?！箛?guó)王便把三十六張櫈子放在他背上，叫他擔(dān)負(fù)到園中去。這樣的愚人，遭世人嗤笑。

　　凡夫俗子也是這樣，若是見(jiàn)到女人的一根頭發(fā)在地上，便說(shuō)自己持著禁戒呢，不肯去撿。后來(lái)受到煩惱的迷惑，三十六種不凈之物如發(fā)毛爪齒屎尿之類(lèi)，無(wú)一不拿，不覺(jué)得有什么骯臟，也沒(méi)有什么慚愧，至死都不肯舍棄，就像那個(gè)背著櫈子的愚人一樣。
