《名賢集》為南宋以來流行在民間的一種通俗讀物。里面收集了一些格言、詩句、諺語等。其中有些內(nèi)容屬封建說教，有些還滲透了佛、道兩教的因果報應(yīng)等思想?！睹t集》以歷代名人賢士的名言善行，講述了為人處世的基本道理。《名賢集》以四言、五言、六言、七言組成，易誦易記，讀之朗朗上口。

但行好事，莫問前程。與人方便，自己方便。善與人交，久而敬之。人貧志短，馬瘦毛長。人心似鐵，官法如爐。諫之雙美，毀之兩傷。贊嘆福生，作念禍生。積善之家，必有余慶。積惡之家，必有余殃。休爭閑氣，日又平西。
