When we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this!
The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow-
It felt like the warning
Of what I feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
And light is thy fame:
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.
They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o’er me-
Why wert thou so dear?
They know not I knew thee
Who knew thee too well:
long, long shall I rue thee,
Too deeply to tell.
In secret we met-
In silence I grieve,
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive.
If I should meet thee
After ling year,

George Gordon，Lord Byron（喬治·戈登·拜倫 1788-1824）英國詩壇上有爭議的“怪人”和“浪子”。德國詩人哥德稱之為“本世紀最大的有才能的詩人。”

這首詩回憶了與愛人分別的情景和感受以及后來的心情。詩中，詩人情感真摯，毫不矯揉造作，真情動人。“In silence and tears”的重復(fù)，不僅使全詩前后照應(yīng)，渾然一體，而且強化了過去和將來不會更改的氣氛；另一方面，詩人運用了較短的詩節(jié)和眾多的斷開的句子，暗示出他的難以壓抑的，無法平靜的痛苦心境。
