 dimwit 笨蛋，傻瓜，無大腦之輩

 dimwitted 笨的，愚蠢的，腦筋不靈的

Dimwit一字于1922年初始見于英文文獻(xiàn)，僅當(dāng)名詞及形容詞用。當(dāng)名詞時(shí)，指腦筋遲鈍的人、笨人；當(dāng)形容詞時(shí)，指笨的、不聰明的，通常形容 ideas，men，women等名詞。語氣損人，仕人淑女少使用。

Dimwit 當(dāng)名詞用

1. dimwit 笨蛋、傻瓜(自貶，貶人)

A. The author1 goes out of the way2 to describe to us dimwits the meaning of the word jejune.3 This book is description enough4.

2. naysayer 指凡事采取消極看法或持反對(duì)意見者。

3. put their plan where their mouths are是put their money where their mouths are(嘴巴說得漂亮，就該掏腰包)，本句是由俗語變化而成的。

A. Beyer2 plays Jazz，a wannabe3 talk-show host. Jazz isn’t very bright. She goes to an interview／audition and is crushed and angry when she’s told she was supposed to bring a demo tape4 with her. Say what5? “Can’t you shoot6 my sample show now?” The guy interviewing this dimwit is amazingly patient.

貝雅扮演爵士，夢(mèng)想成為出名的脫口秀主持人。不過，爵士腦筋并不太靈光，她去面試時(shí)，獲悉本應(yīng)自備一卷示范錄像帶。她又失望又生氣，說什么，“你現(xiàn)在不能拍我的樣本秀嗎?”給她面試的那個(gè)家伙出奇地耐著性子。

注：

2. Beyer 貝雅，為該片的女性導(dǎo)演兼編劇家。

3. wannabe是want to be的快說。特指羨慕名人也夢(mèng)想成名，卻沒有那個(gè)本領(lǐng)的人。

4. demo tape 示范錄像帶。demo乃demonstration的簡(jiǎn)寫，媒體用以篩選報(bào)名者。

5. say what?是What did［she］say(說什么?再說一遍)的口語化，為美國(guó)年輕人的口頭禪，表示“深疑”(incredulous)之意。

6. shoot 拍攝(照片)。

Dimwit 的形容詞dimwitted

1. dimwitted 愚蠢的，笨的

A. “Aren’t you a specialist?” I asked，incredulity and panic creeping into my voice.

我以逐漸懷疑又恐慌的口氣問，“您是?？拼蠓騿?”

1. as though the joke were on(somebody) 像是把……當(dāng)成笑柄，是虛擬語氣。

2. soul 指文中看眼疾的女性病人自己。
