Momoko Sakura, the creator of the much-loved “Chibi Maruko-chan” manga and anime series about a little girl called Maruko, died of breast cancer on Aug 15, her company said Monday. She was 53.

著名日本動(dòng)畫片《櫻桃小丸子》的作者櫻桃子8月15日因乳腺癌去世，終年53歲。她所在的公司于27日發(fā)布了這一消息?！稒烟倚⊥枳印废盗新嬜髌飞钍苋藗兿矏?ài)，主角是一位名叫小丸子的小女孩。(注：櫻桃子為筆名，作者原名三浦美紀(jì))

The funeral has been already held, with only family members and close friends in attendance, the firm said in a statement posted on its website together with an illustration of Maruko and her friends.

《櫻桃小丸子》是以她的童年(昭和49年，即1974年)生活為藍(lán)本的故事，其中的一事一物均充滿著70年代的懷舊氣息。

The series proved to be extremely popular and in 1990 it was made into an anime series, which also became a big success and still continues to this day.

這一系列推出后廣受好評(píng)，在1990年被制作成動(dòng)畫片，也取得了巨大的成功，并延續(xù)至今。

《櫻桃小丸子》是全球知名度最高及最具影響力的動(dòng)漫作品之一。在1990年至1992年，《櫻桃小丸子》第一次動(dòng)畫化，于富士電視臺(tái)播出，并曾于1990年10月28日達(dá)到39.9%的收視率，在1991年9月26日成為有紀(jì)錄以來(lái)日本史上最高收視的動(dòng)畫。

此外，她也推出過(guò)漫畫《Coji-Coji》、小品文《桃子罐頭》等，同時(shí)櫻桃子也是動(dòng)畫《櫻桃小丸子》主題曲的曲作者。

The first theme song of the series, “Odoru Ponpokorin,” became a hit, selling more than 1.73 million copies in 1990.

動(dòng)畫片的首支主題曲《大家來(lái)跳舞》風(fēng)靡一時(shí)，其唱片在1990年的銷量超過(guò)173萬(wàn)張。

“I feel so sad about her demise, which came too early. But the bright smiles of Maru-chan and her friends will keep shining in the minds of readers ranging from kids to adults,” wrote Soichi Aida, the editor-in-chief of Ribbon, in a statement posted on the magazine’s website.
