【a cash cow】

　　【make a killing】這一習(xí)語原指獵人在狩獵時有所斬獲，現(xiàn)在表示“突然發(fā)大財；暴富”之意。例：They made a killing with the sale of their London house.他們通過出售位于倫敦的房子而賺了一大筆錢。

　　【kiss one's ass】直譯過來就是：“親某人的屁股”，這個短語的正確意思是：“巴結(jié)某人”。因此，當(dāng)美國人說"But you can kiss my ass."時，他/她要表達(dá)的意思就是："But you can try to curry favor with me."、"You can try your best to please me."。

　　【Paradigm shift】If John is going to start walking to work， that is a paradigm shiftin his habits. He has never taken any exercise in his life！如果約翰開始走著去上班了，那可真是一個大變化，他從來不做任何運(yùn)動的！Paradigm shift本意是指“人們思維方式的改變或變革”。記住了嗎？

　　【a cash cow】這一習(xí)語字面意為“現(xiàn)金牛”，其實(shí)是喻指“非常賺錢的生意或事物”，也就是漢語里所說的“搖錢樹”。例：The new product is our company’s biggest cash cow. We are making a lot of money now.這款新產(chǎn)品是我們公司最大的搖錢樹，我們現(xiàn)在一直在大把大把地賺錢。

　　【money for old rope】據(jù)說中世紀(jì)時繩索交易興盛，船員們常把船上老舊的繩索(old rope)拿去出售?，F(xiàn)在這一習(xí)語用來形容“容易賺的錢”，例：All I have to do in my job is answering the phone occasionally--it’s money for old rope.我的全部工作只是偶爾接個電話，這錢賺得容易極了。
