One of the most exciting things about traveling to Australia is swimming in the waterfalls. The sun and heat in Australia can really be exhausting and as beaches are far away, water becomes precious. However, the inland areas of the country are blessed with waterfalls and water holes, often found in places you never expected. Here are the most breathtaking waterfalls in Australia.

Barron Falls

The most popular attraction of the Cairns area is the steep waterfalls on the Barron River. There are a number of places where visitors can take pictures of the waterfalls, but the best viewing spot is on Skyrail - a 7.5 km cable car over the rainforest.

Sightseeing flights can be booked at the local tourist center. During the dry season (May to October), you can even drive to the falls and enjoy camping, hiking and swimming.

Apart from Kakadu, the neighboring Lichfield National Park is the most famous with the Wangi Falls. The 84-meter waterfall flows down through a series of segmented floors and has lovely rest areas, nice walking trails and safe swimming pools.

This beautiful waterfall in Australia is also known as "one of the greatest wonders of the natural world". Kimberley's iconic Horizontal Falls is undoubtedly a standout, and it's no surprise that it is Australia's most photographed waterfall.

The special feature of the Horizontal Falls is that they are located along the coast. As huge tidal waves rush through two narrow canals, they create waterfalls up to 5 m high. Located in Talbot Bay, the waterfalls are formed from the faults amid the McLarty Range with a width of up to 25m. During each tidal change, the direction of Horizontal Falls reverses, creating extensive tidal swirls. Some small areas within the falls are available for swimming but it’s not that safe.
