Things you shouldn't share with your colleagues

Disclosing your salary, judging your incompetent coworkers, or revealing you are about to quit... are things you should never do at work.

You cannot build good working relationships without being open to colleagues. However, you need to skillfully choose what - and what not to share. Because revealing things you shouldn't reveal can ruin your career.

1. You hate your job

Nobody wants to hear you lament how much you hate your job. That shows you are a negative person, not a good member of the team, and will decrease your morale.

The boss will be very quick to find out who the culprit is down to and also know that there are always enthusiastic candidates waiting outside.

2. You think someone is incompetent

There are always weak people at work, and usually everyone knows who it is. If you can't help them improve or don't have the power to fire them, there's wrong with "gossiping" about their weaknesses.

Gossiping about your coworkers' weaknesses makes your image worse.

3. The amount of money you earn

Parents may want to hear about how much money you make each month. But sharing that at work is just a nuisance. Salary for employees is never completely fair. So the fact that you disclose your salary to your coworkers will make them compare.

As soon as people know about your salary, everything you do is weighed against that income.

4. You don't care about other people's business

Excellent employees always want the group to succeed, not just themselves. Regardless of your actual motivations (some often work for money), announcing selfish goals will never help you achieve it.

5. Excessive jokes

Be careful what you say and who you imply. Insulting jokes will make others feel terrible and make you very bad.

When you want to joke with someone, consider its suitability to how close you are to that person. If you feel that they might be hurt by your joke, it's best not to say it.

6. You are looking for a new job

Sharing that you are looking for a job has the same consequences as over-joking. When you reveal that you are about to quit your job, you will suddenly become a waste of other people's time. You may also not be able to find a new job, so it's best to wait until you find one before sharing with everyone.
