The two-metre distancing rule will also be relaxed to one in what has been dubbed '1m-plus'.

In venues where two metres isn't possible, customers may sit one metre apart so long as measures are put into place, such as back-to-back seating, perspex screens and partitions between tables.

You'll also find disposable menus, while thousands more staff could be hired to keep branches sanitised.

Before opening their doors, pubs will also be told to service their ventilation systems and make improvements if needed, as well have protective screens, face coverings and hand sanitiser on site.

A temporary record will also be kept of all customers for 21-days so those who visit can be contacted if there has been a localised outbreak of Covid-19.

The guidelines say: "You should assist this service by keeping a temporary record of your customers and visitors for 21 days, in a way that is manageable for your business, and assist NHS Test and Trace with requests for that data if needed. This could help contain clusters or outbreaks."

Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement, Tom Stainer, of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) said: "Getting down to the pub for a pint with friends and family has been one of the things people have missed the most during lockdown, so it is fantastic news that people in England can start returning to their locals from 4 July.
