"After coming back and thinking over everything I`ve experienced, I realized that it was the people that impressed me the most, far more than any of the beautiful scenes or tasty snacks I could ever consume," Zhao wrote in her online diary.
趙星在個(gè)人網(wǎng)絡(luò)日志中寫(xiě)道：“回來(lái)之后，回想我所經(jīng)歷過(guò)的一切，我意識(shí)到那些一路上遇到的人們，要比那些魅力風(fēng)景和美味小吃給我留下更深的印象。”

Long-term goal

Though only 11 days long, Zhao`s journey in fact started at the young age of 17, when one of her favorite night markets of her hometown of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, was demolished.
盡管全程只有11天，但趙星17歲的時(shí)候就夢(mèng)想著去臺(tái)灣旅行，也正是那一年，在家鄉(xiāng)山西省太原，她最喜歡的夜市被拆毀了。

Disappointed, a bit of searching online helped her discover the Taipei-based Shilin Night Market, a world-famous snack repository.
她當(dāng)時(shí)感到很沮喪，幸好在上網(wǎng)搜索一番后發(fā)現(xiàn)了一個(gè)舉世聞名的小吃聚集地——臺(tái)北士林夜市。

Attracted by its bustling scenes, Zhao started cultivating her goal of someday visiting the market, encouraged by her father, who taught her to always dream big.
士林夜市的繁華景色吸引著她，再加上父親鼓勵(lì)她無(wú)論發(fā)生什么，都要心中有夢(mèng)。打那時(shí)起，她便開(kāi)始著手構(gòu)筑自己的“士林夜市旅行之夢(mèng)”了。

When she finally made it to Taiwan last year, it was a bittersweet victory, as her father had passed away soon after she developed the initial plan.
而去年，當(dāng)她終于到達(dá)臺(tái)灣實(shí)現(xiàn)夢(mèng)想時(shí)，可謂喜憂參半，因?yàn)樵谒齽偭⑾?ldquo;我要去臺(tái)灣旅行”的計(jì)劃后不久，父親就離開(kāi)了人間。

Zhao then spent seven years preparing for the journey, learning traditional Chinese characters and undertaking deep research into Taiwanese culture.
趙星花了七年時(shí)間來(lái)籌備這次旅行，她學(xué)習(xí)了繁體字，還深入研究了臺(tái)灣文化。

Unexpected generosity
意外的饋贈(zèng)

She said she wanted to rely as much as possible on recommendations from locals, so armed with only a map, a travel bag and 30 yuan in cash, she left the Chinese mainland for the first time.
她稱自己想盡可能多地依靠一些臺(tái)灣當(dāng)?shù)厝说耐扑]，于是她身上只帶了一張地圖，一個(gè)旅行包和30塊錢(qián)，首次離開(kāi)大陸到臺(tái)灣游玩。

Her memories of the subsequent journey revolve almost exclusively around the generous strangers she met.
對(duì)于之后的旅行，她記憶深處一直念念不忘的幾乎都是途中遇到的熱情慷慨的陌生人。

In the airport, she was assisted in exchanging money by a man who even gave her his telephone number in case of emergency. Even the bus drivers were courteous enough to remind her of her stops – and to wake her if she`d fallen asleep on the ride.
在機(jī)場(chǎng)，一位臺(tái)灣男子不僅幫她換錢(qián)，甚至還留下自己的聯(lián)系方式，說(shuō)如果遇到緊急情況可以打電話給他。就連公交車的司機(jī)也會(huì)十分有禮貌地提醒她到站了，如果她在車上睡著了，他們就會(huì)叫醒她。

She was particularly touched by one striking scene from her last day: sitting on the grass at Taipei-based Soochow University with three local students, playing guitar and singing along to the songs of Zhao`s favorite Taiwanese singers.
最后一天的場(chǎng)景尤其令她難以忘懷，感動(dòng)至今：她同三個(gè)臺(tái)灣學(xué)生一起坐在東吳大學(xué)草地上，三位臺(tái)灣朋友一邊彈著吉他，一邊唱著她最愛(ài)的臺(tái)灣歌手的歌曲。

"I was so grateful to be living out a scene that seven years ago I`d only been able to imagine," she said.
她說(shuō)：“我如此感激在臺(tái)灣的美好時(shí)光，七年前，這些場(chǎng)景只是在我的想象中。”

She also admitted to being nervous about how Taiwanese people would react upon hearing that she hailed from the mainland.
她承認(rèn)，自己也曾感到緊張，不知道當(dāng)?shù)厝嗽诘弥谴箨懭撕髸?huì)做出怎樣的反應(yīng)。

"After I told one of the people who gave me a ride on his motorbike that I was from Beijing, I heard him murmur something. I was instantly gripped by this fear that he was going to say something negative or want to start a fight. But it was totally unfounded – once he dropped me off he even asked if there was anything else he could do to help make my journey better."
“我曾搭過(guò)一個(gè)人的摩托車，當(dāng)我告訴他我來(lái)自北京以后，他嘴里叨念了幾句。當(dāng)時(shí)，我馬上擔(dān)心起來(lái)，害怕他會(huì)說(shuō)很多負(fù)面的話或?qū)ξ覄?dòng)粗。但這些都沒(méi)有發(fā)生，當(dāng)我下車時(shí)，他甚至不忘問(wèn)我路途中還有沒(méi)有需要幫忙的地方。”

Indeed, her diary may have a few steps left of its own, as a Taiwanese publishing house has recently published the diary as a book.
當(dāng)然，她的臺(tái)灣游記與一部完美游記之間還有些許差距，不過(guò)近期臺(tái)灣某出版社已將她的日記出版成書(shū)。

From Beijing to Taiwan, So Close, So Far Away. Not content to rest on her laurels, Zhao said her final wish is to inspire others to hold onto their own dreams of bridging cultures and making the world a smaller, more friendly place for all.
從北京到臺(tái)灣，這么近，而又那么遠(yuǎn)。趙星并沒(méi)有止步于自己所獲得的這些名聲，她說(shuō)她最終的愿望是鼓舞他人堅(jiān)守自己的夢(mèng)想：架起文化之橋，讓世界變得更小，更和睦。
