496　be used as, be used for和be used to (doing) sth.

1　be used as 表示“被用作……”，指主語被用作什么。

English is used as the second language in this country. 在這個國家，英語是被當(dāng)作第二語言使用的。

This bed is used as a desk. 這張床被用作桌子。

2　be used for 表示“被用來干某事”，后常跟動名詞。

Pens are used for writing. 鋼筆是用來寫字的。

Knives are used for cutting things. 小刀是用來切東西的。

This machine is used for making bread. 這臺機(jī)器是用來做面包的。

What's it used for ? 這東西是干什么用的？

It is used for making paper. （正） 它是被用來造紙的 。

It is used as making paper. （誤）

3　be used to sth. 表示“習(xí)慣于某事”，be used to doing sth. 表示“習(xí)慣于做某事”，這里的be 是連系動詞，可用不同的形式，表示過去、現(xiàn)在或?qū)?，used是形容詞，to是介詞，后面跟名詞、代詞或動名詞，但不可跟動詞原形。

He is used to hard work. 他習(xí)慣于艱苦的生活。

She has been used to the weather here. 她已習(xí)慣于這里的天氣了。

You will be used to the city life. 你會習(xí)慣城市生活的。

He was not used to getting up early. 他不習(xí)慣早起。

I am used to walking to the office. 我習(xí)慣步行去辦公室。
