1　earth 作“地球”解時，前面需加定冠詞the 。earth 表示“人間，世界”時，為不可數(shù)名詞，前面可用或不用定冠詞。earth 表示“泥土，土壤”時為不可數(shù)名詞。

The earth is bigger than the moon. 地球比月亮大。

He put the seeds in the earth . 他把種子放進土里。

She fell to (the) earth . 她摔倒在地上。

2　world 表示“世界”，指地球上的社會，有時指世界上的人。

She broke the world record in swimming. 她打破了游泳世界紀錄。

The world's population is growing fast. 世界人口增長得很快。

The whole world is facing the crisis of water shortage. 整個人類都面臨著缺水的危機。

3　“在世界上，在人間”可以說in the world或on earth ，注意這種說法的earth 前不用定冠詞。

There are all kinds of animals in the world . 世界上有各種各樣的動物。

It is the highest mountain on earth . 它是世界上最高的山。

4　ground 指地面，不論是沙地、泥地還是水泥地。
