53　either的用法

1　either 用于指兩個人或物，表示肯定。用作主語或修飾主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。either 的反義詞是neither。either 的結(jié)構：

either +謂語動詞

either of+代詞賓語

either +of+the+復數(shù)名詞

“Do you like this book or that one?” “Either is all right.” “你喜歡這本書還是那本書？”“哪一本都行?！保ㄗ髦髡Z ）

You may come tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Either day is OK. 你可以明天來或后天來，哪一天都行。

There are trees on either side of the road. 路的兩邊都有樹。（=on both sides of the road ）

There are shops on either side of the street. 街道兩邊都有商店。（=on both sides of the street ）

There are villages on either side of the river. 河的兩岸都有村莊。（=on both sides of the river ）

You may take either of the roads. 這兩條路你走哪一條都行。

Your either pens is/ are good. （誤） （either前面不可再有別的修飾語 ）

Either pen of yours is good. （正）你的這兩支鋼筆都好 。

2　either 用作連詞，構成either...or... 結(jié)構，連接并列成分，意為“不是……就是……，或者……或者……，要么……要么……”，謂語動詞要同or 后的成分保持一致。

Either you or he is right. 不是你對，就是他對。/要么你對，要么他對。（連接主語 ）

Do you know either English or French? 你懂英語還是懂法語？（連接賓語 ）

You may come either on Sunday or on Friday. 你可以星期天來，或者星期五來。（連接狀語 ）

You may either take a bus or go there on foot. 你要么乘汽車，要么步行去那里。（連接謂語 ）

Either Mr. Zhang or his students are coming. 不是張先生來，就是他的學生們來。

Either his students or Mr. Zhang is coming. 不是他的學生們來，就是張先生來。

提示

①neither表示“兩者中沒有一個”，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

Neither pen is his. 兩支鋼筆都不是他的。

②both表示“兩者都”，謂語動詞用復數(shù)。

Both of them are blue. 兩個都是藍色的。
