The fact is that people can be happy 63 in pain and unhappy while experiencing pleasure.
This brilliant observation, made by Harvard University psychologist, William McDougall, nearly one hundred years ago, still holds 64 .
Talkingabout present times, a psychologist by the name of Steven Reiss recently faced a life 65 (threaten) illness. As he waited for a liver transplant, he began to ponder such metaphysical questions as the meaning of life and the true nature of happiness. He surveyed more than 6,000 people and asked them 66 they desired in their lives and what would make them happy.
Based 67 this survey, Reiss offers new insights on happiness in his book, The 16 Basic Desires That Motivate Our Happiness and Define Our Personalities. He believes that everything we experience as meaningful can be traced to these 16 basic desires.
So, the author has given us something like an “Inventory of Happiness” 68 (compose) of the 16 basic desires with good description so you can compare and identify which ones you desire 69 . These basic desires hold a key to one's happiness. The ones that you strongly desire are the keys to your happiness. Try to satisfy those, provided they match the 70 (value) you uphold in your life. Note, if they don't agree with your true values, satisfying them will not make you happier.
