并列連詞主要用來表示并列關(guān)系、轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系、選擇關(guān)系、因果推理關(guān)系等。

1. 表轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系的并列連詞

主要有but（但是），yet（可是），while（而，卻）等。

Mary likes classical music, but her husband likes rock music.

瑪麗喜歡古典音樂，而她的丈夫卻喜歡搖滾樂。

I’ ve been away only for three years, yet I can hardly recognize my hometown.

我僅在外三年，可我?guī)缀跽J(rèn)不出我的故鄉(xiāng)了。

The son was having a good meal at home, while the parents were working in the fields.

兒子在家吃好飯，而父母卻在田里辛勤勞作。

注意 though和although 不能和but連用。

2. 表示選擇關(guān)系的并列連詞

主要有or（或者），either... or...（要么……要么……），neither... nor...（既不……也不……），otherwise（要不然）等。

Work harder, or you’ll fall behind. 努力點(diǎn)，否則你會(huì)落后的。

Either we will find a supply, or we will make the goods.

我們或是尋求供貨，或者自己制造。

Neither was the price satisfactory, nor did the colour agree with me.

價(jià)格不太令人滿意，顏色也不太適合我。

We’ll go early, otherwise we may not get a seat. 我們得早點(diǎn)去，要不然就沒有座位了。

注意 neither... nor... 連接兩個(gè)句子，注意用倒裝語序。

3. 表并列關(guān)系的并列連詞

主要有and, not only... but also...（不但……而且……）， when（=and just at this time 就在這時(shí)）等。

Follow the advice of the doctor, and you’ll be well very soon.

聽從醫(yī)生的建議，你會(huì)很快康復(fù)的。

Not only will help be given to disabled persons to find jobs, but also medical treatment will be provided for people who need it. 不僅要幫助殘疾人求職，而且要對那些需要治療的人給予治療。

I was about to go out when someone knocked at the door. 我正要出去，這時(shí)有人敲門。

4. 表因果的并列連詞

主要有for（因?yàn)椋?，so（因此）等。

She found it increasingly difficult to read, for her eyesight was beginning to fail.

她發(fā)覺閱讀越來越困難了，因?yàn)樗囊暳﹂_始下降了。

I was an only child, so I had no experience of large families.

我是獨(dú)生子，因此沒有在大家庭里生活的經(jīng)歷。

注意

① 并列連詞for引導(dǎo)的分句只能放在句尾，前面用逗號隔開，是表示補(bǔ)充說明的微弱理由，只是為前面的內(nèi)容提供判斷的理由。

② because 不能和so 連用。
