17.1　幾種主要韻格的含義與形式

17.1A　Alliteration

1） Alliteration漢譯“頭韻”，指一組詞，一句話或一行詩(shī)中重復(fù)出現(xiàn)開頭音相同的單詞。例如：

Promise, Problem and Provision

這個(gè)詞組是John Hagee編定的一本書的書名，其中發(fā)音相同的3個(gè)字母P重復(fù)使用，構(gòu)成頭韻。

US trade policy is often viewed as inconsistent, incoherent and incomprehensible to the countries of the origin.

這句話中in在字首三次重復(fù)出現(xiàn)，構(gòu)成頭韻。

2） 構(gòu)成頭韻的多為輔音字母，但應(yīng)注意不發(fā)字母本音的字母不構(gòu)成頭韻，如physical pain, psychological power這樣的短語，由于ph組合讀/f/音，ps組合中的字母p不發(fā)音，因而不能在短語中構(gòu)成頭韻。

17.1B　Assonance

Assonance漢譯“母韻”，也稱“元音韻”，或“半諧音”，指一組詞，一句話或一行詩(shī)中同一元音重復(fù)出現(xiàn)。例如：

短語：fair and square, near and dear, etc. 在上述短語中分別重復(fù)元音/e?/和/??/，等。

句子：The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.

在上句中元音/e?/ 五次重復(fù)出現(xiàn)。

詩(shī)歌：

The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,

The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,

The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,

And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

這是Thomas Gray名詩(shī)Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard中的一節(jié)，其中雙元音/??/ 重復(fù)五次，還有/?:/, /e?/, /i:/, /ɑ:/等，均構(gòu)成母韻。

17.1C　Consonance

Consonance，漢譯“尾韻”，指相同詞尾輔音在一組詞、一句話或一行詩(shī)中重復(fù)出現(xiàn)。例如：

詞組： rough and tough, a blessed ghost, etc.

上述詞組中 /f/ 和 /t/ 分別重復(fù)出現(xiàn)，構(gòu)成尾韻。

句子：When I lent I was a friend, when I asked I was unkind.

句中輔音 /t/ 和 /d/ 重復(fù)出現(xiàn)，構(gòu)成尾韻。

17.1D　Single Rhyme, Double Rhyme

1） Single rhyme漢譯“單韻”通常在重讀詞或音節(jié)上押韻，包括前面講到的頭韻、母韻和尾韻。由于這類押韻富于雄健陽(yáng)剛的特色，故又稱“陽(yáng)韻”（Masculine rhyme）。例如：

Fit or Fat?

例中由頭韻 /f/ 構(gòu)成陽(yáng)韻。

China and Britain concur on at least one point. The 13-year transition to Chinese rule can make or break HongKong.

例中由母韻 /e?/ 構(gòu)成陽(yáng)韻。

2） Double rhyme, 漢譯“雙韻”，指“押韻重讀音節(jié)+相同的弱讀音節(jié)”，故又稱“長(zhǎng)短二音韻”，重輕配合，韻律悅耳，具有多姿的女性美，亦稱“陰韻”（Feminine rhyme）。例如：

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

— Proverb

上例中由 /'?:+?/ 和 /'e+?/ 分別構(gòu)成雙韻。

Days, that need borrow

No part of their good morrow.

From a fore-spent night of sorrow.
