LESSON 12 The echo

第十二課 回聲

Hop, hop, hop! shouted little Henry, as he was playing in a field near a wood.

小Henry在一塊靠近一片森林的地方玩耍時(shí)大喊著“跳啊，跳啊，跳啊！”

Hop, hop, hop! came an echo in reply.

響起了“跳啊，跳啊，跳啊”回答的聲音。

Who is there? asked Henry in surprise; for he had never heard an echo before.

Henry驚奇的問(wèn)道“誰(shuí)在那兒？”因?yàn)橹八麖奈绰?tīng)過(guò)回聲。

Who is there? replied the echo.

誰(shuí)在那兒？”回聲回答道。

Foolish fellow! cried Henry, at the top of his voice.

蠢貨！”Henry以他最大的聲音大喊道。

Foolish fellow! was the reply from the wood.

蠢貨！”森林中的聲音回答道。

At this Henry became very angry, and called out many ugly names. The voice from the wood sent back every word.

聽(tīng)到這個(gè)Henry很生氣，接著說(shuō)出很多臟話。森林中的聲音又把每一個(gè)字都送了回來(lái)。

Now, when Henry could not see who was speaking from the wood, he ran home and told his father that a boy hid in the wood had called him bad names!

現(xiàn)在，Henry看不到誰(shuí)在森林中說(shuō)話，他就跑回家告訴爸爸森林中藏著一個(gè)小孩說(shuō)他壞話。

Ah, Henry! said his father, you have heard nothing but the echo of your own words. The bad names came first from your own lips. Had you used kind and gentle words, you would have had kind and gentle words in return. Kind words bring back kind echoes.

Henry！爸爸說(shuō)道，你聽(tīng)到的是你自己說(shuō)話的回聲。壞話首先來(lái)自你自己。你要是說(shuō)些善良和藹的語(yǔ)言，你就會(huì)聽(tīng)到善良和藹的語(yǔ)言。善意的語(yǔ)言會(huì)帶來(lái)善意的回聲。
