一、The feelings about Chinese New Year對中國新年的感受

Jordaniaarrived in China on December 13, 2019，正好趕上the time of COVID outbreaking疫情爆發(fā)。

原本是so excited to experience the Lunar New Year，但由于疫情，the whole country was on lockdown（封城）。

今年是Jordania在中國的third Lunar New Year，但她還沒有celebrate it properly（正兒八經(jīng)地過一次春節(jié)），一直在想象著，how the Lunar New Year was celebrated before COVID ever happened（疫情爆發(fā)前，中國新年是什么樣的）。

二、New Year's Customs in America美國的新年習(xí)俗

lThe family comes together and have a meal together.家人團聚。

l在菜品里，有一些certain foods are never skipped from the menu（新年菜單必須要有的）：

black-eye peas黑眼豌豆

collard greens羽衣甘藍(lán)

pork豬肉

cornbread玉米面面包

2綠葉菜：The greens are the representation ofpaper money.代表金錢。

大家相信綠葉菜在新的一年能夠bring greater financial prosperity。寓意“財源滾滾”。

*financial /fa??n?n?l/ adj.金融的

*prosperity /prɑ??sper?ti/ n.繁榮

2黑眼豌豆：The black-eyed peas promise good luck, health, and abundance.

寓意好運、健康、豐盛有余。

*abundance /??b?nd?ns/ n.豐盛；充裕

2玉米面面包：The freshly made cornbread symbolizes “gold”.

玉米面面包是金黃的，所以代表黃金。

*symbolize /?s?mb?la?z/ v.象征

2豬肉：It is believed that pork brings good luck.

豬肉能帶來好運，因為豬一直是往前拱，pig roots going forward，所以代表的是一種positive meaning，很正面的意義，going forward in the New Year，步步高升。

Chicken is not eaten because it is considered to bring bad luck.吃雞肉是不吉利的，因為chicken scratched the ground going backwards，雞的爪子是往后撓地的。
