Box office is the place outside the movie theater where you buy tickets – now it refers to the profit of a movie.

“box office”原本是指電影院外面可以購票的地方，現(xiàn)在它指是電影的利潤。

《你好，李煥英》票房大賣。

*票房黑馬：dark horse

“dark horse”指某人或某事取得了意外的（unexpected）成功，源于（originated from）賽馬運動。

【Example】Hi, Momis the dark horse of 2021’s film industry.

《你好，李煥英》是國內(nèi)2021年電影業(yè)的黑馬。

*a big hit: very popular and successful 大受歡迎，非常成功

1.Actress & Director 演員&導演

The movie was written, directed and produced by China’s leading female comedian Jia Ling.

這部電影是由中國著名女喜劇演員賈玲創(chuàng)作、導演和制作的。

賈玲創(chuàng)作了很多comedy sketches。

*comedians: an entertainer that makes people laugh 喜劇演員

【Example】如果你覺得誰很搞笑的話，你可以說：

2.Film introduction 電影介紹

因為太催淚了，翩翩沒敢看這部電影。

*催淚彈 ：tear jerker

jerk：猛拉

【Example】That movie is a tear jerker.這部電影是一個“催淚彈”。

《你好，李煥英》前部分非常funny，后面部分卻催人淚下，讓人笑中帶淚。這部電影是一個emotional roller-coaster。

*emotional roller-coaster: experience that makes you have strong, changing emotions (sad at one part, funny at another part)讓人的情緒起伏很大的東西

This movie is about time travel.

*穿越：travel through time

*穿越電影：time travel movie

*時間旅行：time travel

時空穿越體裁的電影，當下很流行。因為它寄托著人們的nice hope：

We can’t do anything to the past, we can make up movies to comfort ourselves.

對過去，我們無能為力，但我們可以制作電影，寄托慰藉。

家庭主題的電影，應該是family movie還是movie about family?

*family movie：the movie you can watch together with your family

可以和家人一起看的電影

*movie about family：movie about the importance of family and the power of maternal love

關于家庭的重要性和母愛的力量

*maternal: relating to a mother 母親的

【Example】Her maternal instinct (or maternal love) is very strong. 她有強烈的母愛。

比電影臺詞，更打動人心的（moving）是：

導演賈玲說，“我不是為了當導演才去拍電影，是為了拍李煥英才去當?shù)膶а荨！?/p>

Jia Ling made this movie in honor of her mother.賈玲為了紀念媽媽拍了這部電影。

*紀念： in honor of/in (loving) memory of

3.為什么看了《你好，李煥英》沒有共情？

很多人都說，自己哭是被賈玲對媽媽的愛而感動（be moved by love），而并不是因為“共情”。

*被感動： be moved

*共情：

empathize

relate to

【Example】對它我沒有共情。

I can’t relate to it.

It’s hard for me to empathize with it.

4. 你的李煥英？Your mom？

David的外婆，早年移居到美國，非常辛苦地工作，來供養(yǎng)(support)家庭，讓孩子受教育。

David的媽媽也是works extremely hard，讓David受到好的教育，并努力實現(xiàn)設定的目標。

女子本弱，為母則剛。

《你好，李煥英》告訴我們，也許我們無法報答父母（pay them back），但我們要珍惜和父母在一起的美好時光（cherish the memory）。

一部好的電影，背后所傳達的思想（the message behind it）一定是可以打動人心的。再加上好的時機(timing)，所以，《你好，李煥英》是一個blockbuster，huge box-office success，a big hit and a black horse.
