（1）與名詞搭配時的區(qū)別
another只能與單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞連用，表示不確定的“另一個”“再一個”，如another day，another cup of water，而不說another days或another water。然而，other與單數(shù)、復數(shù)可數(shù)名詞以及不可數(shù)名詞連用均可，表示不確定的“另外的”“其余的”人或物，如：other boys，the other boy，other fish等。
（2）與數(shù)詞搭配時的區(qū)別
1）another +數(shù)詞+復數(shù)名詞
2）數(shù)詞+ other +復數(shù)名詞
例如：
another three days　不說 three another days *
three other days　不說 other three days *
我們還應該注意這兩種用法意思上的區(qū)別。當我們說I will stay herefor another three days.，意思是“我還要在這里再待三天。”言外之意，我已經(jīng)在這里待過一段時日了，現(xiàn)在還得再加上三天。即“another +數(shù)詞+名詞復數(shù)”這一結(jié)構(gòu)表示“在原有基礎(chǔ)上的一個延續(xù)”。
而three other days意思卻完全不同，比如我們說I am always busy from Monday to Thursday, but I can come on three other days.，意思是“我其他三天 (Friday，Saturday and Sunday)能來”，所以three other days 并不像another three days那樣具有一種“累加延續(xù)”的效果，而只是單純地表示“其他的……，另外的……”。
另外，與“another +數(shù)詞+名詞復數(shù)” 這一結(jié)構(gòu)意思相同的另一種結(jié)構(gòu)是“數(shù)詞+ more +復數(shù)名詞”，比如我們可以說three more days。
綜上可知，雖然another不能直接與復數(shù)名詞連用，但其后可以先接數(shù)詞或few，然后再接復數(shù)名詞。如：another few weeks / a few more weeks （還有幾個星期），another few boys / a few more boys（又有幾個男孩）。

（3）other的其他用法
1）other之前可以有其他限定詞修飾，如：some，any，every，one/two/three，no， many， his/my/their等。例如：
a. Can you give me some other reference books?
你能否給我一些其他的參考書？
b. every other day　每隔一天 （相當于every two days）
c. no other tools　沒有其他的工具了
d. Have you got any other colors?
你這里有別的顏色嗎？
2）other和the other
“other +名詞”表示不確定的“其他的……，另外的……”；“the other +名詞”表示特定的“其余的……”。例如：
a. Some metals are magnetic and other metals are not.
b. Of all metals, only mercury is liquid and the other metals are solid.
3）other和others
other只能作限定詞來用，后面必須接名詞，不能說Other are…*；而others只能用作代詞，后面不能再接名詞，不能說Others people are…*。正確的說法是Others are…。
