在我們剛才聽到的2個例句中，都聽到了同一個詞語：worship the ground sb walks on。這是一條動詞性習慣短語。習語中的worship是“崇拜，崇敬，仰慕，熱愛”的意思。例如：She was blind to the silent worship in his eyes.(譯文：她沒有發(fā)覺他眼里流露出的無聲的敬慕之情。)Ground是指“地面”，sb walks on是一個定語從句修飾前面的名詞ground，指“某人走在的地面上”。Worship the ground sb walks on字面意思就是崇敬某人走在的地面，比喻為：to love and admire someone very much，意思是非常欽佩某人，亦即：對某人崇拜得五體投地而拜倒在其腳下。
