英語(yǔ)早間課堂:教您一招說(shuō)喝彩(4)

各位親愛的朋友們，歡迎來(lái)到早間課堂第二系列《拋招接招》小節(jié)目，我是Juliet。

演員們精湛的表演技巧，演講者妙語(yǔ)連珠的講說(shuō).... 會(huì)博得滿堂彩。反之，差勁低劣的則會(huì)招來(lái)喝倒彩。對(duì)此，有的人既不鼓掌示好也不喝倒彩，而是以沉默的態(tài)度來(lái)對(duì)待。除演出演講之外，我們心里會(huì)抵觸那些無(wú)用處的，不感興趣的建議，意見等等。今天，我要拋出的1招說(shuō)“歡迎”就適于上述情況。

我們先來(lái)聽2個(gè)例子：

拋招-1：Fred's joke went over like a lead balloon. 費(fèi)雷德的笑話沒有引起一丁點(diǎn)兒反應(yīng)。

拋招-2：I'm afraid my proposal to the committee will go over like a lead balloon. 我給委員會(huì)的建議大概是完全不會(huì)被接受的。

接招：在上面的2個(gè)例句中都用到了同一個(gè)詞語(yǔ)：go over like a lead balloon。短語(yǔ)中g(shù)o over是受歡迎的意思。Lead 就是鉛，balloon就是氣球，lead balloon就是用鉛做的氣球。作為習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)，this idiom is used in order to say that people did not like a remark, idea, joke etc that was supposed to be interesting or funny, or that they did not react at all，意思是指(笑談，建議等)完全不受歡迎，沒有引起人的任何反應(yīng)。

我們下面再來(lái)看2個(gè)例子：

When I gave my speech to the club, I started off with a joke to get the audience in a good mood. But my joke went over like a lead balloon - nobody even cracked a smile. And it almost ruined the rest of the speech for me.

當(dāng)我在俱樂部發(fā)表演說(shuō)的時(shí)候，我一開始講了一個(gè)笑話，想在聽眾當(dāng)中制造一個(gè)好的氣氛。但是，我的笑話沒有引起任何反應(yīng)，甚至沒有一個(gè)人笑一笑。這幾乎毀了我的整個(gè)演講。

注解1：give a speech to sb：給......演講

注解2：start off：開始 start off with：以......開始

Eg. Don't light a cigarette when you meet the boss; you'll start off on the wrong foot. 見老板時(shí)不要點(diǎn)煙，要不然，你和他一開始就會(huì)處不好。

Eg. If you try to start off in top gear you'll stall. 要是剛一發(fā)動(dòng)就用最高擋，那就會(huì)熄火。

注解3：get sb in a good mood：使......心情好

Eg. I failed in the competition, my mother try to get me in a good mood as hard as she could, which was in vain. 我比賽失敗了，媽媽想盡一切辦法是我心情好起來(lái)，可是沒有用。

注解3：crack a smile：強(qiáng)作微笑

Eg . Father is a serious person, who seldom cracks a smile.父親是個(gè)嚴(yán)肅的人，他很少露笑臉。

Eg. I'd do anything to see you crack a smile. 為了博得你的一笑，我情愿做任何事情。

I told my kids if they stop watching TV for a week before their final exams, I'll take them to the zoo to see the pandas the first week of their summer vacation. But my suggestion went over like a lead balloon.

我對(duì)孩子們說(shuō)，要是他們?cè)谄诮K考試前一個(gè)星期不看電視，那末我就在他們放暑假的第一個(gè)星期帶他們?nèi)?dòng)物園看熊貓。但是，孩子們對(duì)我的建議毫無(wú)反應(yīng)。
