英語早間課堂:話說地道美語 Lesson 24(2)之一

今天我們要學(xué)習(xí)的是大家期待已久的課后功課——根據(jù)中文完成句子的精講，從而使我們更好的掌握hit sb right between the eyes這個習(xí)語的運用。

我們來看看題目。中文句子是——我敢打賭,我在這些方程式上花了總總十分鐘還沒有得出答案。后來, 我突然想出了正確答案。英文句子如下：I I around these equations ten minutes but then all of a the right answer hit me between eyes. 英文句子中有7個空，需要填寫的單詞依次如下：bet，fooled，with，for，sudden，right和the。完整句子為——I bet I fooled around with these equations for ten minutes but then all of a sudden the right answer hit me right between the eyes. 我們掌握以下幾個要點就可以順利地完成這道題了。

第一，掌握fool around這個短語，它的意思是虛度光陰;浪費時間;瞎胡鬧;做傻事;終日荒嘻等等。我們通過下面的例句來熟悉這個短語的用法。

Eg. The workers always fool around when the boss steps out. 當(dāng)工頭一走開，工人們就到處游蕩不做事情了。

Eg.Mike fell and broke his leg, which teaches him but good not to fool around in the trees. Mike跌斷了腿，給了他一個有力的教訓(xùn)，使他再也不敢在樹上嬉戲了。

用fool around來表示荒廢時間不做......，胡鬧......，在......耗費時間，我們在fool around的后面用上介詞with，即：fool around with sth。我們來看下面的例句：

Eg. Let's try to get it done and not fool around with the State Department. 我們盡力把事情辦成，不要在國務(wù)院耗時間了。(get sth done 完成.... the State Department 美國國務(wù)院)

Eg.If you go to college, you must study seriously and not fool around with computer games. 如果你上大學(xué)，就一定要好好學(xué)習(xí)了，不要把時間荒廢在電腦游戲上。

我們句中的fool around with these equations意思是指在考試的時候不會做這個方程式，在這個方程式上耗了很長的時間，但是做的都是無用功。

第二、掌握all of a sudden這個短語，它的意思是突然地，預(yù)料不到地，冷不防地等等，相當(dāng)于suddenly，和它同意的短語還有all at once。我們來看下面的例句：

Eg. When the hall was filled with applause, all of a sudden, a man with rage rushed in and all the people were frightened out of their wits. 當(dāng)滿廳掌聲雷動之時，突然一個氣急敗壞的人闖入，把人們嚇得驚慌失措。(with rage adv. 盛怒地 out of one's wits adv. 不知所措地，be frightened out of one's wits/be scared out of one's wits/be stunned out of one's wits 魂飛魄散，屁滾尿流，張皇失措，六神無主)

Eg.All of a sudden, the light went out. 突然，燈熄滅了。(go out 熄滅)

第三、Hit sb. right between the eyes這是一個習(xí)慣用語。不管主語是什么，不要使用物主代詞one's 修飾eyes，一定是定冠詞the修飾eyes。短語中的right是“正好”“恰好”的意思，可以省略，換句話說，就是可以用hit sb between the eyes。

第四、For 表示時間的持續(xù)，for ten minutes就是指時間持續(xù)了10分鐘。

Bet是“打賭”的意思，它可以做名詞也可以做動詞。它的現(xiàn)在分詞和過去式以及過去分詞都是不規(guī)則的，分別是betting，bet，bet。Let's make a bet on the next election. 我們就下次的選舉打個賭吧。(make a bet 打賭 make a bet on sth 就......打賭)

Bet還有確信的意思。“I bet。”這個短句意思是of course(當(dāng)然)的意思。我們來看一個小對話：

A : Are you sure my daughter has fallen in love with Ricky, a bad guy? 你肯定我的女和還那個壞家伙Ricky談戀愛了嗎?

B: I bet. 當(dāng)然啦。

我們再來看一個例句：I bet they've got held up in the traffic.我敢肯定他們一定是在路上因交通擁擠而受阻了。(get held up 受阻而無法前進(jìn))
