詞組講解

1. give out *** 停止運轉(zhuǎn)；用盡；中途終止

解短語動詞；詞義溯源：給出［到滅絕、殆盡（out）］

例 I don't care about the loud noise it makes, we're going to use this refrigerator until it gives out. It'll probably last another six months. So until then, just learn to live with the noise.

2. give rise to sth. ** 引起

例 What the President meant by “Goodwill begets goodwill”, is that good-intentioned, friendly gestures from one country give rise to reciprocal gestures from another.

3. give 〔feed〕 sb. a line ** 拐騙，用謊話迷惑

例 He'll probably try to give you a line about where he was last night. If I were you, I'd question him only after getting all my ducks in a row —you know, find out everything about where he was and what he was doing last night. That way you'll have an idea of when he's lying.
