i. it作為代詞

1. it作為人稱代詞，代替前文提到事物，也可替代嬰幼兒。

Is it a girl or a boy?

他是女孩還是男孩？

Look at my baby. It wears a smile with two teeth in it.

瞧瞧我的小寶寶，他笑中露出兩顆牙齒。

Here is a map of France. It's one of the largest countries of Europe.

給你法國(guó)地圖，這是歐洲最大的國(guó)家之一。

All of them are paper tigers; it is a truth.

2. it可以替代指示代詞this, that。

This is my book. It is an English book.

這是我的書本，是一本英語(yǔ)書。

—It's a schoolbag.

——那是什么？

——是一個(gè)書包。

3. it作“這，那”解，指心目中或上下文中的人或事。

There's a knock at the door. Who is it? It's the milkman.

有人敲門，是誰(shuí)呢？是送牛奶的。

It's your Mum on the phone.

你媽媽來電話找你。

4. it作為無人稱動(dòng)詞的主語(yǔ)，表示天氣、時(shí)間、季節(jié)、氣溫、距離、環(huán)境等。

It was hot/rainy/foggy.

天氣很熱/有雨/有霧。

—What time is it?

—It's just seven o'clock.

——現(xiàn)在幾點(diǎn)了？
