That the earth from sleep

For her Maker meek;

And the desert wild

那一片荒涼的沙漠

Become a garden mild.

將變成溫暖的花園一座。

In the southern clime,

Where the summer's prime

那里盛夏的時(shí)光，

Never fades away,

永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)消逝；

Lovely Lyca lay.

可愛(ài)的麗嘉躺臥在那方。

Seven summers old

七個(gè)夏天已度過(guò)，

Lovely Lyca told.

可愛(ài)的麗嘉說(shuō)，

She had wandered long,

她一直在游蕩

Hearing wild birds' song.

聽(tīng)著那野鳥(niǎo)唱歌。

'Sweet sleep, come to me,

甜蜜的睡眠來(lái)找我吧

Underneath this tree;

就在這裸樹(shù)下；

Do father, mother, weep?

爸爸媽媽會(huì)不會(huì)流淚——

Where can Lyca sleep?

“麗嘉能在哪兒安睡？”

'Lost in desert wild

你們的小孩子

Is your little child.

在荒涼的沙漠中迷失。

How can Lyca sleep

麗嘉怎么能安睡，

If her mother weep?

若是她媽媽在流淚。

'If her heart does ache,

若是媽媽在心疼，

Then let Lyca wake;

那就讓麗嘉仍清醒；

If my mother sleep,

若是我的媽媽在安睡，

Lyca shall not weep.

麗嘉也就不會(huì)流淚。

'Frowning, frowning night,

愁苦的愁苦的黑夜啊

O'er this desert bright

籠罩著這明亮的荒野，

Let thy moon arise,

讓你的月亮升起，

While I close my eyes.'

當(dāng)我把我的眼睛緊閉。

Sleeping Lyca lay,

當(dāng)麗嘉躺臥著安眠

While the beasts of prey,

從深深的山洞里面

Come from caverns deep,

許多猛獸跑出來(lái)

Viewed the maid asleep.

觀察著這熟睡的女孩。

The kingly lion stood,

獅王站在那里

And the virgin viewed:

觀察著這個(gè)童女，

Then he gambolled round

然后他來(lái)回跳躍嬉戲

O'er the hallowed ground.

在這塊神圣的土地：

Leopards, tigers, play

豹子、老虎也在玩耍，

Round her as she lay;

就在她身邊圍繞；

While the lion old

這時(shí)那只年長(zhǎng)的獅子

Bowed his mane of gold,

垂下他那一頭金色的鬃毛，

And her bosom lick,

便舔著她的胸膛，

And upon her neck,

他的眼睛灼灼有光，

From his eyes of flame,

流出紅寶石般的眼淚，

Ruby tears there came;

滴落在她的頸項(xiàng)上；

While the lioness

這時(shí)母獅也來(lái)到身旁，

Loosed her slender dress,

松開(kāi)她纖細(xì)的衣裳，

And naked they conveyed

它們把這熟睡的女孩

To caves the sleeping maid.

赤裸裸地搬到洞里來(lái)。
