President Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan has agreed on a ceasefire in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib after lengthy talks in Moscow. The ceasefire is to come into effect at midnight Syrian time. Tensions in the region have risen following the killing of more than 30 Turkish troops last week in airstrikes during a Russian-back Syrian government offensive.

Scientists say this winter in Europe has been the warmest on record by far. Data from the EU satellite shows the average temperature on the continent for three months from December to February almost 1.4 degree Celsius higher than the previous record.
