My father lived at Blenheim then,

當(dāng)年，我父親住在布倫海姆，

Yon little stream, hard by;

They burnt his dwelling to the ground,

And he was forced to fly;

So, with his wife and child he fled,

They say it was a shocking sight,

人們都說，景象悲慘，

After the field was won;

后來，法國(guó)人打回后，

For many thousand bodies here,

數(shù)千具尸體，七橫八躺，

Lay rotting in the sun:

陽(yáng)光暴曬下，很快腐爛。

But things like that, you know, must be,

可你們知道，戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)就是那樣，

After a famous victory.

哪次，不是尸骨堆山？

Great praise the Duke of Marlboro' won,

人們盛贊，馬爾伯勒公爵的戰(zhàn)績(jī)，

And our young prince, Eugene.

還有，年輕王子尤金的勝利。

Why, 't was a very wicked thing!

為什么呢？殺人是邪惡的！

Said little Wilhelmine.

小威廉明妮開口說道。

"Nay, nay, my little girl!" quoth he,

“噢，不，我的孩子，”老卡斯帕說，

It was a famous victory.

那可是，一次了不起的勝利。

And everybody praised the Duke who this great fight did win.

每人都稱贊公爵，他確實(shí)，贏得了戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)。

But what good came of it at last?

但，最終又有什么好處？

Quoth little Peterkin.

小威廉明妮問道。

"Why, that I can not tell," said he,

“為什么？我也不知道，”老卡斯帕嘟囔，

"But 't was a glorious victory."

“那可是，一次輝煌的勝利。”
