Well, I'm thumbing through the Atlantic Monthly, and my wife is reading a novel. 那個(gè)，我在翻看《大西洋月刊》，而我妻子在讀小說(shuō)。

A novel, "novel," is a fictional book — a book that is not a true story. 小說(shuō)(novel)是虛構(gòu)類(lèi)書(shū)籍——不是在講真實(shí)故事的書(shū)籍。

"At around 9," that is at nine p.m., "I remember that tomorrow is trash day." “At around 9，”也就是晚上9點(diǎn)鐘，“我想起了明天是倒垃圾的日子。”

Trash, "trash," is anything that you are getting rid of — that you are throwing out — that you don't want anymore, 垃圾(trash)是任何你想處理掉的東西——你要扔掉的東西——你不再想要的東西，

and trash day is the day that the garbage trucks come by and take the trash away. 垃圾日就是垃圾車(chē)過(guò)來(lái)把垃圾運(yùn)走的日子。
