It was very droll to see the peculiar look with which he regarded his feathered friend;

澤克對他的長滿羽毛的朋友那副奇怪的表情顯得很滑稽；

not knowing exactly what to make of her civilities, and doubting how they should be received.

不知道怎么回報她的熱情，澤克顯得手足無措。

When her family were educated, and able to do without her care, she was a frequent visitor at Jock's kennel, and would, if permitted, roost there at night, instead of returning with the rest of the poultry to the henhouse.

當(dāng)她的孩子們長大了，用不著她時刻照看的時候，雅麗克常常到犬舍做客，有時晚上就在犬舍棲息，而不是和別的小雞一樣回雞舍。

Yarico certainly was a most grateful and interesting bird.

One could almost believe a parrot had intellect, when he keeps up a conversation so spiritedly;

and it is certainly singular to observe how accurately a well-trained bird will apply his knowledge.

觀察一只受到良好訓(xùn)練的鸚鵡準(zhǔn)確地運用這種知識確實很新奇。

A friend of mine knew one that had been taught many sentences;

我的一個朋友見過一只會說很多話的鸚鵡。

thus, "Sally, Poll wants her breakfast!" "Sally, Poll wants her tea!"

例如，“薩拉，波爾要吃早餐！”“薩拉，波爾要喝茶！”

but she never mistook the one for the other; breakfast was invariably demanded in the morning, and tea in the afternoon;

還從來沒用錯過；早上要早餐，下午要茶；

and she always hailed her master, but no one else, by "How do you do, Mr. A?"

而且見到主人時總是說：“你好啊，A先生？”卻從不對別人這樣說。

She was a most amusing bird, and could whistle dogs, which she had great pleasure in doing.

這真是一只有趣的鳥，她甚至能吹口號招呼狗，從中得到很多樂趣。

She would drop bread out of her cage as she hung at the street door, and whistle a number about her, and then, just as they were going to possess themselves of her bounty,

當(dāng)人們把鳥籠掛在門口的時候，她會扔出一塊面包到鳥籠外面，然后吹一段口哨，就在狗兒去吃面包的時候，

utter a shrill scream of "Get out, dogs!" with such vehemenceand authority as dispersed the assembled company without a morsel, to her infinite delight.

她會發(fā)出尖叫“狗兒，滾開！”聲音里充滿了力量和權(quán)威，狗兒一點也沒吃到就跑了，她可快樂極了。
