"Now, Philip;" said Stephen, I think you will act better in not minding him,

as your contempt will be the best punishment you can inflict upon him.

Be assured, he will always be able to do more mischief to you than you choose to do to him.

And, now I think of it, I will tell you what happened to him not long since.

Very unluckily for him, he chanced to see a bee hovering about a flower which he caught,

and was going to pull off its wings out of sport, when the animal stung him, and flew away in safety to the hive.

The pain put him into a furious passion, and, like you, he vowed revenge.
疼痛讓他怒不可遏，像你一樣，他發(fā)誓要報(bào)仇。
He accordingly procured a stick, and thrust it into the beehive.
于是，他找來一根棍子，戳進(jìn)了蜂箱。
In an instant the whole swarm flew out, and alighting upon him stung him in a hundred different places.
頃刻間，整個蜂群飛了出來，落在他身上，叮了他一百多處。
He uttered the most piercing CRIes, and rolled upon the ground in the excess of his agony.
他發(fā)出了最尖利的哭喊聲，過度痛苦使得他在地上打起滾來。
His father immediately ran to him,
他父親立刻跑來，
but could not put the bees to flight until they had stung him so severely that he was confined several days to his bed.
但是根本沒辦法趕走蜜蜂，直到它們把他叮得嚴(yán)重到不得不臥床很多天。
Thus, you see, he was not very successful in his pursuit of revenge.
你看，他期望的報(bào)仇并不成功。
I would advise you, therefore, to pass over his insult.
因此，我建議你忽略他對你的侮辱。
He is a wicked boy, and much stronger than you;
他是個壞孩子，又比你強(qiáng)壯，
so that your ability to obtain this revenge may be doubtful.
那么你來實(shí)施報(bào)復(fù)的能力就值得懷疑。
"I must own," replied Philip, that your advice seems very good.
“我必須承認(rèn)，”菲利普回答道，你的建議非常好。
So come along with me, and I will tell my father the whole matter, and I think he will not be angry with me.
隨我來吧，我會把一切告訴父親，我想他不會生我的氣。
They went, and Philip told his father what had happened.
他們離開，菲利普告訴父親發(fā)生了什么。
He thanked Stephen for the good advice he had given his son,
他父親感謝斯蒂芬給他兒子的建議，
and promised Philip to give him another cane exactly like the first.
并且答應(yīng)給菲利普一個完全一樣的竹藤。
A few days afterward, Philip saw this ill-natured boy fall as he was carrying home a heavy log of wood, which he could not lift up again.
之后幾天，菲利普看到這個壞脾氣的男孩在往家里搬一塊很沉的木柴時摔倒在地，再也抬不起來。
Philip ran to him, and helped him to replace it on his shoulder.
菲利普跑到他身邊，幫他把木柴扛在肩上。
Young Robinson was quite ashamed at the thought of this unmerited kindness, and heartily repented of his behavior.
小羅賓遜想到這份好意時感到非常慚愧，發(fā)自內(nèi)心地對自己的行為表示后悔。
Philip went home quite satisfied.
菲利普心里非常滿足地回到家。
"This," said he, is the noblest vengeance I could take, in returning good for evil.
“這，”他說，是我進(jìn)行的最高尚的復(fù)仇，以德報(bào)怨。
It is impossible I should repent of it.
我是不會為此后悔的。
