Henry Bond was about ten years old when his father died.

在亨利.邦德大約十歲時(shí)，他的父親去世了。

His mother found it difficult to provide for the support of a large family, thus left entirely in her care.

支撐整個(gè)大家庭的重任全都落在了他母親的身上，這讓她感到異常的艱辛。

By good management , however, she contrived to do so, and also to send Henry, the oldest, to school, and to supply him, for the most part, with such books as he needed.

但通過(guò)不斷的苦心經(jīng)營(yíng)，她想盡辦法撐起了這個(gè)家，還送她最大的孩子亨利去讀書，給他提供了上學(xué)所需要的大部分書籍。

At one time, however, Henry wanted a grammar, in order to join a class in that study, and his mother could not furnish him with the money to buy it.

然而，有一次，亨利為了參加語(yǔ)法學(xué)習(xí)班，需要一本語(yǔ)法書，他在沒(méi)有錢供他買書母親實(shí)。

He was very much troubled about it, and went to bed with a heavy heart, thinking what could be done.

這件事讓他非常糾結(jié)，晚上躺在床上仍然憂心忡忡，一直在想能做些什么。

On waking in the morning, he found that a deep snow had fallen, and the cold wind was blowing furiously.

早晨醒來(lái)，他看到外面已經(jīng)下了厚厚的一層雪，寒風(fēng)猛烈地吹著。

"Ah," said he, "it is an ill wind that blows nobody good."

他說(shuō)：“啊，這場(chǎng)惡劣的寒風(fēng)讓大家都?jí)螂y受的。”

He rose, ran to the house of a neighbor, and offered his service to clear a path around his premises.

他迅速地起床，跑到鄰居家里，提出為鄰居的房屋四周清掃積雪。

The offer was accepted. Having completed this work, and received his pay, he went to another place for the same purpose,

鄰居接受了他的提議。當(dāng)完成了這項(xiàng)工作，拿到了工錢，他又跑到另一處幫人掃雪，

and then to another, until he had earned enough to buy a grammar.

然后又去了另一家，直到他賺夠了買語(yǔ)法書的錢。

When school commenced, Henry was in his seat, the happiest boy there, ready to begin the lesson in his new book.

等到開(kāi)學(xué)時(shí)，亨利坐在他的位子上，等待開(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí)新書上的第一課，他是班里最最開(kāi)心的。

From that time, Henry was always the first in all his classes.

從那時(shí)起，亨利總是班上到校最早的。

He knew no such word as fail, but always succeeded in all he attempted. Having the will, he always found the way.

在他的心目中，沒(méi)有“失敗”一詞，他總能夠成功地做好他想做的事。有了意愿，他就總能夠找到成功之路。
