Don’t Want to Miss It

A guy hosted a dinner party for people from work, including his boss.

All during the sit-down dinner, the host's three-year-old girl stared at her father's boss sitting across from her. The girl could hardly eat her food for staring.

The man checked his tie, felt his face for food, patted his hair in place, but nothing stopped her from staring at him. He tried his best to ignore her, but finally it was too much for him.

He asked her, "Why are you staring at me?"

Everyone at the table had noticed her behavior and the table went quiet for her response.

The little girl said, "My Daddy said you drink like a fish and I don't want to miss it!"

有一個(gè)人作東給同事們辦了個(gè)晚餐派對(duì)，也邀請(qǐng)了他的老板。

整個(gè)由服務(wù)員端來(lái)吃的晚餐過(guò)程中，作東人三歲的女兒一直盯著坐在對(duì)面的爸爸的老板看。因?yàn)橐恢倍⒅?，所以女孩兒幾乎沒(méi)吃東西。

那個(gè)老板檢查了自己的領(lǐng)帶有沒(méi)有打好，臉上有沒(méi)有食物，還輕拂了頭發(fā)，可是女孩兒還是盯著他看。他試著不理會(huì)小女孩，可最終還是忍不住了。

詞匯講解】

1.host作東。作動(dòng)詞還有“招待/主持/舉辦”的意思：Our school will host a sports meeting.我們學(xué)校即將舉辦運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)。

2.sid-down由服務(wù)員端來(lái)吃的。Sit down 是坐下的意思，加了連字符變?yōu)樾稳菰~，專門(mén)形容那些由服務(wù)員上菜的餐會(huì)。

3.stare at盯著看。stare還有別的用法，比如，stare down使屈服：stare sb. down on the issues在這個(gè)問(wèn)題上使某人就范。還有make sb. stare使某人大吃一驚，be staring sth. in the face面臨…的厄運(yùn)。
