Who Should Be Given the Present

A father of five children came home with a toy, summoned his children and asked which one of them should be given the present, "Who is the most obedient, never talks back to Mother and does everything he or she is told?" He inquired.

There was silence, and then a chorus of voices: "You play with it, Daddy!"

誰該得到禮物

一位有五個孩子的父親帶著一件玩具回到家里，把孩子們召集起來問這件禮物該給誰。“誰最聽話，從不和媽媽頂嘴，讓干什么就干什么?”他問道。

大家都不吭聲。過了一會兒，孩子們異口同聲地說：“爸爸，您玩吧。”

【詞匯講解】

1.summon召喚。The general summoned all his officers.將軍把所有的軍官召集在一起。“傳訊(出庭)，傳喚”He was summoned as a witness by the court.他被法庭傳喚作證。“鼓起(勇氣)，振作(精神)”summon the nerve to do sth. 鼓起勇氣做某事

2.obedient順從的。 She is an obedient woman.她是位溫順的女人。We're absolutely obedient to the superior.我們絕對服從上級。

3. talk back頂嘴。Don't talk back to your mother like that!不許和媽媽那樣頂嘴。

4. inquire詢問。還有“調(diào)查”的意思，常與“into”搭配使用：The police inquired into her background.警方審查了她的歷史。

5.chorus異口同聲地說。 The papers all chorused the praises of the President.各報都異口同聲地對總統(tǒng)表示贊揚。 也可以作名詞，是“合唱, 合唱隊, 歌詠隊”的意思：Never before have I heard this song sung in chorus.我從來沒有聽過這首歌的合唱。

6.play with一起玩。也可以指“玩弄”： It is wrong for a man to play with a woman's affections.男人玩弄女人的感情是錯誤的。
