還記得你曾日夜操練，

And feel that swelling of the heart

Did you never meet, far down the street,

難道你不曾在街邊上，

With plumes and banners gay,

While the kettle, for the kettledrum,

當(dāng)作鼓的水壺咚咚敲著進(jìn)行曲，

Played your march, march away?

伴隨你行進(jìn)的每一步？

It seems to me but yesterday,

似乎就在不久以前，

Nor scarce so long ago,

對我來說一切恍如昨日，

Since all our school their muskets took,

我們?nèi)寂e著步槍，

To charge the fearful foe.

向著可怕的敵人沖刺。

Our muskets were of cedar wood,

那杉木做的步槍，

With ramrods bright and new;

帶有簇新的推彈桿；

With bayonets forever set,

刺刀固定在槍上，

And painted barrels, too.

還有上了漆的槍管。

We charged upon a flock of geese,

我們向一群鵝發(fā)起攻擊，

And put them all to flight,

嚇得它們四處飛散。

Except one sturdy gander,

除了一只強(qiáng)壯的雄鵝，

That thought to show us fight.

想要和我們決一死戰(zhàn)。

But, ah! we knew a thing or two;

可是，?。∥覀兛删诖说?，

Our captain wheeled the van;

我們的首領(lǐng)沖在前面；

We routed him, we scouted him,

我們打得它落荒而逃，大肆嘲笑，

Nor lost a single man!

而我軍一個(gè)人都沒不見！

Our captain was as brave a lad

我們的隊(duì)長是個(gè)勇敢的小伙子，

As e'er commission bore;

就像委任狀上寫的那樣；

And brightly shone his new tin sword;

他頭戴紙帽，

A paper cap he wore.

亮出新的鐵劍閃閃發(fā)光。

He led us up the steep hillside,

他帶領(lǐng)我們爬上陡峭的山坡，

Against the western wind,

獵獵西風(fēng)迎面而來，

While the cockerel plume that decked his head

他頭上插著的公雞羽毛，

Streamed bravely out behind.

迎風(fēng)飄揚(yáng)的樣子多么豪邁。

We shouldered arms, we carried arms,

我們扛槍上肩，我們?nèi)蔽溲b，

We charged the bayonet;

我們把刺刀都裝上；

And woe unto the mullein stalk,

毛蕊花莖不幸遭了殃，

That in our course we met!

誰叫它擋在我們奔跑的路上！

At two o'clock the roll we called,

兩點(diǎn)鐘我們就點(diǎn)名集合，

And till the close of day,

一直玩到夜幕降臨，

With fearless hearts, though tired limbs,

我們投入模擬的戰(zhàn)斗，

We fought the mimic fray,

心無所畏懼，手腳卻筋疲力盡，

Till the supper bell, from out the dell,

直到樹林外面?zhèn)鱽硗盹埖暮魡荆?/p>

Bade us march, march away.
