"One cold, bleak night,

“一個(gè)寒冷而蕭瑟的夜晚，

the snow fell fast,

雪下得很大，

and the wind blew loud and shrill.

大風(fēng)呼嘯而過(guò)。

It was quite dark.

外面一片漆黑，

Not a star was to be seen in the sky.

天空連一顆星星都看不到。”

"These good men sent out a dog,

“這些善良的人們把一條狗放了出去，

to hunt for those who might want help.

用來(lái)尋找可能需要幫助的人。

In an hour or two, the dog was heard coming back.

一兩個(gè)小時(shí)后，這條狗就會(huì)回來(lái)。”

"On looking out, they saw him with a boy on his back.

“向外望的時(shí)候，他們看到它的背上有一個(gè)男孩。

The poor child was stiff with cold.

這個(gè)可憐的孩子被凍僵了，

He could but just hold on to the dog's back.

他只能趴在狗背上，動(dòng)彈不得。”

"He had lain for a long time in the snow,

“他已經(jīng)在雪里躺了很長(zhǎng)時(shí)間，

and was too weak to walk.

虛弱得無(wú)法走路。”

"He felt something pull him by the coat,

“他感覺(jué)到有東西在拉他的大衣，

and heard the bark of a dog.

還聽到了狗的叫聲。

He put out his hand, and felt the dog.

他伸出手，摸了摸這只狗。

The dog gave him another pull.

狗又拉了拉他。”

"This gave the poor boy some hope,

“這一拉給這個(gè)可憐的男孩帶來(lái)了一些希望。

and he took hold of the dog.

他抓住了狗，

He drew himself out of the snow,

把自己從雪堆里拉了出來(lái)。

but he could not stand or walk.

但他已經(jīng)不能走路，甚至站不起來(lái)了。”

"He got on the dog's back,

“他趴在了狗背上，

and put his arms round the dog's neck, and held on.

用胳膊圍在狗脖子上抓住它。

He felt sure that the dog did not mean to do him any harm.

他肯定這只狗不會(huì)對(duì)他造成任何傷害。”

"Thus he rode all the way to the good men's house.

“他趴了一路，終于到達(dá)了善良人們的家。”

"They took care of him, till the snow was gone.

“他們一直照顧他，直到雪停，

Then they sent him to his home."

然后把他送回了家。”
