16. Carry On! 堅持

It's easy to fight when everything's right,

當(dāng)一切順順當(dāng)當(dāng)戰(zhàn)斗真易如反掌，

And you're mad with the thrill and the glory;

激動和榮譽使你如癡似狂;

It's easy to cheer when victory's near,

當(dāng)勝利在望，誰不感到興奮，

And wallow in fields that are gory.

在血跡斑斑的戰(zhàn)場上打滾?

It's a different song when everything's wrong,

當(dāng)一切都不順手，調(diào)子就不一樣;

When you're feeling infernally mortal;

當(dāng)你感到死到臨頭，

When it's ten against one, and hope there is none,

當(dāng)你以一對十，毫無希望，

Buck up, little soldier, and chortle:

振作起來，小兵，放生歌唱。

堅持下去!堅持下去!

There isn't much punch in your blow.

你的拳頭為何軟弱無力?你在張皇四顧，盲目出擊，

You're muddy and bloody, but never you mind.

你渾身泥濘血污;可是，不要管它。

Carry on! Carry on!

You haven't the ghost of a show.

你還不曾有過一丁點兒表現(xiàn)的機(jī)會。

It's looking like death, but while you've a breath,

即使要付出生命;可是，只要一息尚存，

Carry on, my son! Carry on!

堅持下去!孩子，堅持下去!

And so in the strife of the battle of life

人生的戰(zhàn)斗也是這樣，

It's easy to fight when you're winning;

得手時戰(zhàn)斗易如反掌;

It's easy to slave, and starve and be brave,When the dawn of success is beginning.

當(dāng)勝利的曙光在望，你不畏勞苦，忍饑挨餓，依然勇往直前。

But the man who can meet despair and defeat

唯有上帝的寵兒，

With a cheer, there's the man of God's choosing;

才能屢經(jīng)挫折而氣不餒;

The man who can fight to Heaven's own height

唯有斗志沖霄漢，

Is the man who can fight when he's losing.

才能雖敗猶斗。

堅持下去!堅持下去!

Things never were looming so black.

雖然道路艱險，前所未見

But show that you haven't a cowardly streak,

壯起膽來，證明你毫無怯意。

And through you're unlucky you never are weak.

你雖不走運，卻從不軟弱。

堅持下去!堅持下去!

Brace up⑿ for another attack.

振作精神迎接第二次攻擊。

It's looking like hell, but—you never can tell:

即使進(jìn)地獄——可是誰又能說得準(zhǔn)，

Carry on, old man! Carry on!

堅持下去!朋友，堅持下去!

There are some who drift out in the deserts of doubt,

有些人在疑慮的沙漠里彷徨，

And some who in brutishness wallow;

有些人在殘忍的泥沼里打滾;

There are others, I know, who in piety go

但也有人，我知道，一片虔誠，

Bec use of a Heaven to follow.

因為有上帝可以追隨。

But to labor with zest, and to give of your best,

熱情地勞動，竭誠地助人，

For the sweetness and joy of the giving;

以求施予的歡樂和甜蜜。

To help folks along with a hand and a song;

伸出手來，用歌聲鼓勵人們前進(jìn)，

Why, there's the real sunshine of living.

啊，這是生命的真正的陽光。

Fight the good fight and true;

There's big work to do, and that's why you are here.

Let the world be the better for you;

And at last when you die, let this be your cry;
