◎ 英語(yǔ)的所有格可分為兩種，'s（或s'）所有格和of所有格。從句法功能上分析，'s（或s'）或of前后的兩個(gè)名詞（代詞）可能是主謂關(guān)系，也可能是動(dòng)賓關(guān)系，但究竟為何，要視具體的語(yǔ)境而定?，F(xiàn)說(shuō)明如下。

① 主謂關(guān)系所有格。

the resignation of the Cabinet（=The Cabinet resigns.）內(nèi)閣的辭職

the love of a mother（=a mother's love for her child）母愛(ài)

the invention of Edison愛(ài)迪生的發(fā)明

the discoveries of Columbus哥倫布的發(fā)現(xiàn)

the conquest of Alexander亞力山大的征服

② 動(dòng)賓關(guān)系所有格。

the love of nature（=love nature）對(duì)自然的愛(ài)（熱愛(ài)自然）

search of knowledge求知

the conquest of space對(duì)宇宙的征服

the discovery of America美洲的發(fā)現(xiàn)

the writings of Hellen海倫的作品（主謂）

the writing of a book一本書(shū)的寫(xiě)作（動(dòng)賓）

John's fear約翰所感到的恐怖（主謂）

the fear of John對(duì)約翰的懼怕（動(dòng)賓）

③ 雙重所有格中的of后可用代詞所有格（mine…），但不可用代詞賓格（me…）。

A friend of her told us the news.

A friend of hers told us the news.

她的一個(gè)朋友告訴我們這消息。

雙重所有格不與定冠詞the連用：

He is the best friend of mine.

He is one of my best friends.

他是我最好的朋友之一。

He is my best friend.

他是我最好的朋友。
