① read表示“（直接）讀，閱讀”；read of表示“（間接）讀到關(guān)于……”。

She read some poems aloud to us. 她給我們朗讀了一些詩。

I once read of him in the newspapers. 我曾經(jīng)在報上讀到過關(guān)于他的報道。

② know表示“知道，認(rèn)識（見過面或交談過）；know of表示“知道”（沒見過面）。

I know the painter. 我認(rèn)識那位畫家。（見過面）

I know of the painter. 我知道那位畫家。（沒見過面）

I know of the teacher but I don't know her. 我知道這位老師，但不認(rèn)識她。

③ allow表示“允許”；allow of表示“容許”。
