545　population用法難點

① population意為“人口”，是集體名詞，一般不可加s，作主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

The population of Shanghai is over ten million. 上海的人口超過一千萬。

② population有時可同a連用，構(gòu)成“地點名詞+has a population of+數(shù)詞”結(jié)構(gòu)，表示某地有多少人口。

The village has a population of about 800. 這個村子的人口大約是800。

③ population可同big或large搭配，表示人口多，同small搭配，表示人口少，但不能同many，a lot of，few，little搭配。

The country has a large population. 這個國家人口眾多。

The city with its big population is in the west of China. 這個人口眾多的城市位于中國西部。

That country has a small population. 那個國家人口稀少。

④ 對人口提問要用what或how large，不能用how many或how much。

How many is the population of the city？

What is the population of the city？

這個城市的人口是多少？

How large is the population of the city？

表示“人口中的多少是干什么的”，謂語動詞常用復數(shù)形式。
