378　in place，in one's place和out of place

① in place表示“在適當(dāng)?shù)牡胤剑诒緛響?yīng)該在的地方”，常作表語。

The books are all in place on the shelves. 書架上的書都放在應(yīng)放的地方。

② in one's place表示“代替某人”，相當(dāng)于in place of sb.。（還可以表示在適當(dāng)位置上。）

The manager is away and I'll attend the meeting in his place. 經(jīng)理不在，我將代替他出席會(huì)議。（=in place of the manager）

Everything in the room is in its place. 房間里的一切都井然有序。（相當(dāng)于in place）

③ out of place表示“不合適，不協(xié)調(diào)”，常作表語。

Your suggestion is quite out of place. 你的建議很不妥當(dāng)。

He felt out of place among the guests. 他在客人中間感到不自在。
