316　go out和go all out

① go out意為“出去，熄滅，不時興”。

Don't go out after dark. 天黑后不要出去。

All the lights have gone out in the building. 大樓里所有的燈都熄了。

This kind of coat has gone out. 這種外衣已經(jīng)不時興了。

表示“熄滅”，還可用put out和extinguish，二者均為及物動詞。

They soon put the fire out. 他們不久就撲滅了火。

They tried to extinguish the flames. 他們試圖撲滅火焰。

② go all out表示“全力以赴，極力”，可以單獨(dú)使用，后面也可跟不定式，表示“全力做某事”。

We have to go all out if we want to succeed. 如果要想贏，我們必須全力以赴。

They went all out against the plan. 他們極力反對這項(xiàng)計(jì)劃。

We must go all out to fight against pollution. 我們必須全力以赴同污染作斗爭。

We should go all out to help him. 我們必須全力幫助他。
