280　fit和suit

① fit可用作及物動(dòng)詞和不及物動(dòng)詞。

（1）一般用指“（服裝的尺寸、大?。┖仙恚线m”。

This coat fits me. 這件上衣我穿合身。

The shoes fit me well. 這雙鞋很適合我。

This dress fits badly. 這件衣服很不合適。

His coat fits beautifully. 他的上衣很合身。

（2）表示“使適合”，結(jié)構(gòu)為：

fit sb. for sth.

fit sb. to do sth.

His abilities fit him for the position. 他的能力使他很適合擔(dān)任這個(gè)職務(wù)。

Her experience fits her to lead the research group. 她的經(jīng)驗(yàn)使她適合領(lǐng)導(dǎo)這個(gè)研究小組。

（3）表示“裝配，安裝”。

He has fitted a new lock on the door. 他在門(mén)上裝了把新鎖。

提示

The dress fits for her nicely.

（fit表示“適合于”為及物動(dòng)詞）

The dress fits her nicely.

這件衣服她穿正合適。

② fit用作形容詞時(shí)，表示“適合的，能勝任的”，可作定語(yǔ)或表語(yǔ)，結(jié)構(gòu)為：

be fit for sth.

be fit to do sth.

She is just fit for a job as a teacher. 她正適合干教師這一行。

The food is not fit to eat. 那食物不適合吃。

③ suit表示“（衣服的款式、顏色）相配，合適”。

Blue suits her. 藍(lán)色是適合她穿的顏色。

That new dress suits you very well. 那件新衣的款式很適合你。

The colour of the cloth suits a woman at my wife's age. 這布的顏色適合我妻子年齡的婦女穿。

提示

fit常指適合某種目的或用途，或某人適合某種工作、職務(wù)，而suitable則指適合某種情況、環(huán)境或需要。

The man is not fit for the job. 這人不適應(yīng)做這項(xiàng)工作。

These clothes are not suitable here. 這些衣服在這里穿不合適。

This red jacket is fit but not suitable for me. 這件紅夾克衫我穿合身，但不合適。
