257　even if和though

① even if意為“即使”，引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句，也可說成even though，但even if更為常用。even if引導(dǎo)的從句是假設(shè)性的，可能是事實，也可能不是事實。

Even if I didn't know anybody at the party，I had a good time. 即使在這次晚會上我誰也不認識，我也玩得挺痛快。（為一個事實）

I'll go there even if the weather is bad tomorrow. 即使明天天氣不好，我也要去。（為一個假設(shè)）

Even if you can't finish it，others may go on. 即使你做不完，別人也可以接著做。

He is an honest man，even though I sometimes disagree with him. 他是個誠實的人，即便我有時對他有不同意見。

② 有時可用if代替even if，意思不變。

If he is too old to work，he is very enthusiastic about neighbourhood affairs. 盡管年邁不能多操勞，但他對里弄工作非常關(guān)心。

She couldn't be angry with him if she tried. 她對他生不起氣來，即使她想那樣的話。

③ though意為“雖然”，引導(dǎo)的也是讓步狀語從句，但從句里說明的是事實。

Though he is poor，he is honest. 他雖窮，但卻誠實。

She went on working though she was tired. 她雖然累了，但仍繼續(xù)工作。

提示

even if或even though引導(dǎo)的從句要用一般現(xiàn)在時代替一般將來時。

即使明天下雨，我們也要動身。

We'll leave even if it will rain tomorrow.
